Sightseeing in Sounio

Escape with us for a few hours, away from the city centre and let’s explore the Athens Riviera.

As we make our way down the coastline on a beautiful and relaxing route, we will make our first stop at Lake VouliagmeniThis is a small brackish-water lake which is fed by the sea and the therapeutic underground springs.

The lake is situated half a metre above sea level, measuring 260 metres in length and 145 metres in width. Here, we can enjoy our coffee or ice cream with the breathtaking view of the lake transporting ourselves to a secret place unknown to most.

We continue our journey by the sea under the Grecian blue sky, making various stops for photographs or to simply enjoy the beauty of nature until we arrive at the Temple of Poseidon in Sounio.

The first written account of Sounio was made by Homer in the Odyssey where he referred to it as the “sacred cape of the Athenians”. The construction of the current temple of Poseidon dates back to the 5th Century B.C.

We will visit the archaeological site of the temple, where you will have the opportunity to experience one of the country’s most famous sunsets, in between the columns, bidding farewell to the day in the most ideal way.

Finally, you may dine in one of the seaside traditional restaurants should you wish to do so.

Our goal by the end of this tour is for you to have gained a better knowledge of our city and its history, whilst having enjoyed your day creating everlasting memories.
